ICreate Lab tour
Today my class and I visited the I-create lab. We saw what they had that we could use for our activity. This is located on the second floor of the bell library. They have a laser printer, 3D printer, CNC router, soldering, embroidery, Cricut, and the printer. We saw what all had to offer.
The laser engraver was an interesting start. We were able to see things they have laser printed before. For example, they had cups, pumpkins, and wood. There is also plenty more they can print there is a poster of things they can engrave and what not to. Vinal, and fake leather are not materials you can use. The CNC is like the laser engraver; however, it can be used for bigger wood pieces. For these projects you do bring in your own materials. One way I would use this would be to engrave my cup. One thing I could do as a teacher is have them write their names and engrave keychains for the students’ parents.
The 3D machine was interesting. I was able to see how you can scan small things on a turn table. It does not have to be small; it could be a full-size person if you wanted. That also can practically build almost anything, it cost .7 cents a gram, as well as they have the materials. Now if your really into 3D printing and prefer a certain brand or something you can meet with them and see if the one you want to use is compatible with their printer.
The next machine we looked at were the embroidery, circuit, and sewing machine. These machines have the thread, you just bring what you want it to go on. These machines were nice touch to the lab perfect for teachers to use the circuit for their classroom purposes.
They even have a huge printer for large posters. It can even make stickers. It is great! The school uses it for their own posters on campus, and stickers. It is neat I will like to use it to make stickers and posters as well.
I visited the I-create lab once again to use the large printer. I created a poster on Canva then had Shelby help me upload it on the computer to start printing. It took an about 10 minutes to print. Alyssa and I cut the poster to size. I visited the laser cutting room watching the laser cutter cut "tomato" on wood material. I enjoyed seeing everyone use something different in the I-create lab. I would definitely like to visit I-create on my own time and use the laser to engrave my cup and the embroidery machine on my shirts. What I created was a poster over the types of lands.
